September brought together representatives of Cricket Argentina, Brazil, Chile and Peru to coordinate and agree on a common plan for the coming years. The main result was the creation of Cricket South America, an organization that seeks to coordinate the activities common to the sub-region.

Another welcome outcome was agreement on a fixtures list of events for the next three years among which are:

• A South American Under-13 Boys Championship in 2010 in Peru
• A South American Women’s Championship in 2010 in Chile
• A South American Academy of Under-14 Boys in 2010 in Argentina
• A South American Cricket Academy for Women in 2010 in Argentina

This will seek to provide the area’s juniors and women with increased international competition, covering all their ages and complement those events organized by ICC Americas.

We see this as a big step forward in the development of cricket in South America.
