Cricket Peru attends ICC Americas Development Forum in Costa Rica
Posted on: May 22nd, 2011
The Secretary of Cricket Peru, Miles Buesst, was proud to attend the recent, annual ICC Americas Development Forum, held over three days at the Hotel Bougainvillea in San Jose, Costa Rica. It was a chance to celebrate some of the many achievements made in developing cricket in Peru over the past year, with the cricketing movers and shakers of the region - which included two participants each from ICC headquarters in Dubai and the West Indies Cricket Board, the staff of the ICC Americas office in Toronto, as well as a representative from each of the ICC Member nations in the Americas region (numbering 16 in total, although Cuba was unable to attend for political reasons). It was also an opportunity to share information and strategies across two continents, which share a number of challenges, despite a clear diversity.
The social highlight of the weekend was an Awards Dinner on Saturday night, at which the 2010 Development Awards were presented to the winners, and long-serving Bermudan Cricket Board member, Reginald Pearman, was honoured for his services to cricket in Bermuda, prior to his retirement.
Nonetheless, the message of the Forum was that, despite major advances being made in nearly all areas, much still remains to be done if the Americas region is going to catch up with the other regions in the ICC, in terms of participation and playing standards.
