Sunday 15th November, 2009 saw the Celebratory Match of the Lima Cricket & Football Club’s 150th year. LCFC invited the British Ambassador’s XI to play a 35 over match. This match like many other aspects within the club has a long history and tradition. In recent times LCFC has not done enormously well in this and other competitions and are rather better known for hosting tournaments than playing in them. This time it was slightly different. LCFC put on 199 for the loss of just 4 wickets, with healthy contributions from Hans de Wit (56) and Rob Champion(51) and Ed Baxter (30). Although the batting was not as fluent as it could have been, it was very effective in the face of loose bowling and wilting fields.

In reply John Bell’s Ambassadors XI were effectively cut off in their prime, slumping to 27 for 4, with an explosive opening spell from that man Hans de Witt (4 – 15) again, removing the dangerous Ambassadors batsmen before they were allowed to settle. Ambos eventually were bowled out for 97, losing by 102 runs, with only David Massiah (18) and Will Mckenzie (40*) contributing significantly.

The Ambassador, Catherine Nettleton, arriving late due to the match finishing early, presented the LCFC skipper Julian Walter with the trophy and Hans de Witt with the Man of the Match award. A rematch is due in April after the Easter festival.

May the club prosper 150 years more!

In November, the Lima Cricket and Football Club, the oldest Cricket Club in South America, continues its 150th celebrations with two cricket matches. On the 15th November a 35 over match will be played against the Ambassadors XI, bringing together the finest players in Lima and Peru. The match will be attended by local dignitaries and showcase the advances made in Peruvian Cricket in the last decade.

Over the weekend of 7th & 8th March, 2009, The Golden Oldies, the Hollywood team (minimum age limit 40) were treated to the usual fantastic hospitality by both club and city.

Peru were too strong in the opening day 20/20 match, posting a mammoth score of 217 with Mike Soulsby scoring a century. The following day a mix and match team entered the park with Martin (Gordon) Greenidge’s XI ending up victors, thanks to a Miles Buesst century. It certainly has been a season for lots of runs.

The national Twenty20 season is now underway between four clubs: Lima Cricket and Football Club, Eigenhossen, Kiteflyers and ‘Chak De’. Eidegenossen had won the Cricket Veloz tournament in November but struggled in their first game against Chak De. The Kiteflyers defeated Lima cricket in the other game.

The second week saw the Kiteflyers once again dominate the batting after a slow start and eventually overcome a gritty effort by Eigenhossen to chase 175. Lima Cricket Club only posted 107 against the might of ‘Chak De’ and it looks like next week will be a great final between The Kiteflyers and ‘Chak De’.
