ECB Level 1 Umpiring Course in Lima

  Posted on: March 15th, 2015

As part of continuing efforts to build capacity and ensure professionalism in the sport, Cricket Peru, with the support of ICC Americas, held an ECB (England and Wales Cricket Board) approved Level One Umpiring Course in Lima from 24 to 27 January 2015.

Based on the 42 laws of cricket, the intensive four-day course covered aspects of the craft such as the Spirit of Cricket; Planning, Preparation and Pre-match Duties; Match Management; and Making Decisions, including such ever-contentious issues as appeals, scoring signals, and methods of dismissal.

ECB-certified course convener, Andrew Elliott, was brought to Lima from Buenos Aires to run the course, which was attended by five Cricket Peru members of varying levels of experience. They were unanimous in voicing their enjoyment of the experience.

As course participant, Steve Hallett, put it, “We learned aspects of umpiring that we never knew existed, or that came out when we thought the ump was just being completely unfair, bossy and idiosyncratic.”
