all teams 2The Peruvian Women’s Cricket Team, the Vicuñas, returned from the 2nd Cricket South America Women’s Championship in Brasilia, Brazil on a high, having made huge strides forward as a cricketing team and enjoyed a thoroughly enjoyable tournament, making a lot of friends along the way. It was the first time Cricket Peru had entered a women’s team in an international competition and as can be gleaned from the below feedback, it was a huge success:

‘Dear Peruvian international Women Cricketers,

I can’t even begin to tell you how proud I am of all of you!! On behalf of Cricket Peru -Congratulations!!! I have been speaking to my good friend Matt Featherstone (the Captain of the Brazilian Men’s cricket team) who was umpiring at the tournament, and he was very complimentary in all he said about you as a TEAM …

coatch and mascotWell done to Nick Barsby [Coach], Frances Carr [Captain] and Juliet Solomon [Women’s Cricket Officer] for their leadership; Jade Rodriguez for her special award [Revelation of the Tournament]; and also to Michelle Gillespie for her dedication in getting there in the end.  There are a few things we have learned out of this pioneering tour and you should ALL be proud that you have set a fantastic foundation for the future of Women’s cricket in Peru.’

Harry Hildebrand,
President of Cricket Peru.

‘Hi to all in Brazil,

299154_10150266256061903_712016902_8005736_6806076_nThank you for being such great hosts in Brasilia. Chile had a wonderful time while we were there. We also made some history as we won our first game in international cricket [against Peru!].

Congratulations to the winners Argentina, a very professional outfit. Everybody can learn from just watching them.’

Craig Andrews,
Cricket Chile High Performance Manager

‘Well all can I say is what a great tournament of Women’s cricket we have just had in Brasilia. This is the first time we have had four teams at a women’s event and it was fantastic. I would just like to thank the three visiting countries for making such a big effort to get to Brasilia. We had three splendid days of sunshine, as you would expect here, which led to many excellent, close games.

‘Just wanted to add my thanks to everyone involved for all their hard work in making the tournament the success that it was, and for being excellent hosts.

To my mind the tournament was a success before it even started – playing an international event in Brasilia for the first time, Peru joining in and making it a true Cricket South America event, and Chile for overcoming all obstacles to be there.

All to look forward to in 2013 for the third Women’s SAC in Argentina!

Thanks again, and congratulations to everyone involved.’

Chief Executive Officer
