Cricket Peru heavily involved in LCFC Summer Academy

  Posted on: February 26th, 2015

Cricket Peru has continued its long-term association with Lima Cricket & Football Club by being an integral part of the Summer Sports Academy. National Development Officer, Steven Hallett, National U/17 captain Diego de la Puente, and U/17 bowler Christian Cannock have been introducing cricket to some 200 students throughout the summer.

Via a range of activities, and based on the philosophy of FUNdamentals, the 7 to 14 year old children have been put through their paces in batting, bowling and fielding activities, which are now being shown and applied even at the youngest level.

The classes are designed to foment basic and more advanced skills, and game awareness. Advances in these areas have been very encouraging, and more importantly, in the spirit in which they are now being demonstrated.

According to Development Officer, Steven Hallett, the most gratifying outcome of the two-month academy has not been the acquisition of taught skills, but seeing the kids playing spontaneous games of cricket between themselves during the lunch break.  He adds, “If given the right opportunities, local youth will take to cricket. The challenge is to continue offering sustainable cricket pathways so they can continue developing as players, and enjoying themselves at the same time”.

Cricket Peru has been developing a number of actions to include Limenian youth in cricket activities. If you have any queries or would like have your children participate please write to cricketdevelopment@perucricket.com
