  Posted on: January 24th, 2014

Cricket Peru is currently coaching around 200 young Peruvians the skills, culture and ethos of cricket at the Lima Cricket and Football Club’s Academia de Verano. The Cricket Peru Development Officer, along with rising youth star, Diego de la Puente, are teaching children between the ages of 7 and 14. Many have had little or no exposure to the game in the past and is their first and exciting taste of the sport.

Cricket Peru hopes to spread their enthusiasm about cricket further into the Limenian and greater Peruvian society. It is also hoped that teaching young Peruvians about cricket will help to expand its future player base, and incorporate enthusiastic and talented young cricketers into structured competitions. Junior training and matches will commence in March 2014.

Children are being given an opportunity to engage in a fun and healthy activity, while also having a chance of selection for the upcoming South American U/13 Championships in Argentina in October. This year Peru will be looking to defend the South American title they won in sensational circumstance in Brazil last year.
